I am now half way through my first week of work. I have been assigned a project, this massive portal based application for the national energy corporation to manage their RTU’s and other technical jumbles. My part of the project should not be too overly complex, mostly working on the presentation tier of the system. Some cool technologies involved like Struts, Hibernate, and IBM Websphere. Struts are a really cool open source framework for implementing Model-View-Controller web applications, but I fairly sure that few people who read this will care.

Not much planned for the holiday break, my friend Ivan arrived in Auckland a few days ago, and on Friday or Saturday he flies down to see his uncle in Wellington. Also Matt is flying in for New Years from Christchurch. The plan is to arrive about 2pm on the 31st and leave around 10am on the 1st, which is ridiculous to me but he is the one doing it so whatever.

Christmas is only five days away now and it still doesn’t feel like a big deal. It might be partly because I don’t have an over-excited sister jumping around all the time. The house though is also nothing special, no tree, no decorations, no presents, since everyone else is doing going somewhere else for their holidays. Doesn’t bother me too much though, my present was coming to New Zealand.
