Over the weekend Wellington had the Cuba Street Carnival, a fairly big even in Wellington where they close down parts of the CBD and set up a big fair. The carnival runs on Friday and Saturday, Friday was not so exciting with rain during the event, but that still drew a reasonable amount of people to the various performances. Saturday however was a magnificent day. The whole area was packed shoulder to shoulder with street performers everywhere, marketplace shops, and live bands performing. We stayed out most of the afternoon getting sunburns and heatstroke before finally packing it in. We missed the parade though at the end of the day on Saturday which goes for a few hours with large floats created by local schools and groups. It was very unfortunate. Some of the good news however was I finally replaced my broken camera with the same model, took some pictures of the carnival, and hopefully will get them up soon.
I moved into my new flat yesterday which went off without its share of hiccups. All the lights in my room were burnt out and the girl didn’t replace them so I was left in the dark moving in, then problems with the dryer, and no space to put anything in the bathroom. Still, despite all that it is still much better than the hostel.
