I’ve been living in a hostel for the last week now; it has been going as good as can be expected for living in a hostel. Not too many rowdy people in my room even got a couple of cute girls in there for a little while. However this morning something interesting happened. Everyone in the room got kicked out. Last night some drunken kiwi people in town for the X-Games trashed a few floors of the hostel, and someone filed a complaint against a bunch of rooms on our floor, ours included. It seemed a bit fishy when they said we were drinking and being rowdy when currently there is myself, a little Swedish girl backpacker, and three thirteen to fifteen year old kiwi guys.
So they told us we all had to be out in thirty minutes, and we all just stood around completely perplexed about the whole thing since we hadn’t done anything wrong. I was out last night making mischief in town, but not in the hostel. So we head downstairs to the reception area to plead our case, the kiwi guys even stating that I had never done anything and I was probably the quietest one in the hostel (I don’t know how I should feel about that yet). At reception the guy pulls out the complaint log and lists off the rooms that filed a complaint, and which room it was a complaint about, and sure enough our room isn’t listed but the room beside us and across the hall from us are.
So I am a little confused now because there isn’t actually a complaint against our room, and I still haven’t any idea why I am being kicked out, but I have no where else to go so this is a big problem. So finally the guy reveals that the kid with the big afro in our room was specifically mentioned in the complaint as one of the perpetrators which is why our room was thrown out. So our whole room is being kicked out because one person said they saw one person in our room being a little rowdy. I finally get a chance to speak to the guy, who I have spoken to on many occasions before this incident and know me, and sort out that I am a backpacker and not a drunk kiwi in town for the X-Games, and he decides to let me and the other backpacker stay.
It is just a continuation of the streak of bad luck over the last little while; I thought I left my bad karma back in Canada. Whatever the reason it seems to have caught up with me for a while so I’ll have to do lots of nice things now to get some good Karma.
As a final note last night England beat Australia in the first game of the Commonwealth Bank Series finals by four wickets. I’m not the biggest fan of England, since they knocked out the Black Caps (New Zealand), but it is always fun to watch the Aussies lose. Especially after their captain and announcers run their mouth off about how great Australia is and how other teams should get to play with an extra player to make up the difference.
