On Saturday I went to the Wellington Phoenix vs Sydney FC soccer game in Wellington with a few of my friends. The game was pretty funny because a couple of my friends didn’t really know a lot about soccer and weren’t really watching the game (just socializing). Well in the 90th minute Phoenix was up by one goal, and a Phoenix player made a brutal give-away pass just on the Phoenix side of half. Sydney went on a quick attack into the box and had a good scoring chance until the Phoenix defender was forced to bring down the player in the box. Penalty shot. The entire stadium groaned in disbelief but my friends who weren’t paying attention thought that something exciting happened so stood up and cheered wildly at the idea of scoring a goal. I had to quickly remind them that it was the opposition’s penalty shot and after they scored it the Phoenix had blown the win with 30 seconds left to play. At least I was entertained from the soccer game and my friends’ antics.
