The North Island has been hit hard by a sever storm that has already claimed a few lives. Northern parts of the island, specifically Northland, Bay of Plenty, Waikato and Hawkes Bay regions are the worst affected. Several areas are blacked out and cut off due to flooding and slips. Emergency services have been called out across the country.
Wellington has escaped most of the damage so far, the airport is closed and towns 100km away are without power, but Wellington city has been going on as business as usual. It’s rained every day for the last several days and is expected to continue right through to the start of next week. Given the state of most of the rest of the country, we’re pretty lucky.
