Last weekend I went to the Wellington Sevens tournament at Westpac Stadium. The sevens is the third tournament of the series and has sixteen teams playing over two days. This year I hired a mountie costume, I was sure that I would be the only one with that kit there. I went with my friend Ed and he dressed from the 80s. I never saw another mountie but someone told me they saw a female mountie there.
Friday was a warm day. Ed came over and we headed down to the stadium stopping for coffee and several drinks along the way. We arrived at the stadium sometime around four when it was really starting to fill up, grabbed our seats and chilled out. The rest of the day was for beer, costumes and rugby. We met up with a few friends around the stadium and partied it up the rest of the night.
Saturday we got there a bit earlier and I didn’t want to sit in the sun so tried sitting a few rows up from our seats. We had security on us so fast, we sat in the vip section where they hand you free beer . We found new seats and enjoyed the sunny day. Canada didn’t do so well, I’m not sure they won a single game. New Zealand went to the finals and lost in the dying seconds of the game on a converted try. Some of the better costumes there were some guys as traffic cones, some cave men, lego men and the carebears. I look forward to going next year.
