I’m writing this post from my iPhone as I sit in Espressoholic drinking a flat white and eating a piece of rocky road cake. I think it’s terrible that after 18 years at the current location on Courtenay Place they are being forced to close.

As I sip my drink and look around I see a young family, a couple of business men, a couple hippies and a lot of just regular folk. Typical Wellington upbeat cafe music with good beats plays in the background that drowns out the conversations. A group of high school girls walk passed me on their way out from the covered smoking section and one of them laments about it closing. This is probably the first time I’ve ever agreed with what a teenage girl has to say.

It is a shame that Espressoholic is closing But the worst part is the fact that it’s not the business’s fault. The landlord is refusing to renew the lease despite the fact that the owners have offered more money. Yes they can move the business to a new location, but will it have the same charm? Will it have the same atmosphere? Most importantly, will it be able to offer great coffee and food right in the heart if the city? We’ll just have to wait and see.
