I’ve had The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for a few days now and got to log some good time over the weekend. The first thing that struck me is that they haven’t deviated too far from the basics that made The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past so great. The basic concepts of fighting moves, utility items and money all feel the same.

The graphics are far better, as they should be, over the SNES version I had. I love getting to explore the Zelda universe in 3D, I missed out on a lot of Zelda games over the years and my only experience is with the top down view. It seems the Zelda franchise is stuck on the whole light and dark world concept but they’ve done a good job on it

The combat leaves a little to be desired so far. Not that it’s bad, it’s quite good really, but the Wii remotes could have been done better. I don’t find much challenge in the combat so far, I just wave the remotes as fast as I can and things seem to work out. The game is a few years old though and I’m sure devs have gotten better with the Wii remotes (look at The Force Unleashed). I read today that a new Zelda game is in the early stages for the Wii, I know I’ll pre-order it.
