Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit launched today and I picked up the copy. It’s been a while since I played a Need for Speed game, not since Most Wanted in fact. One feature that I really like in the game is the voice-over in the car selection screen. It’s a simple feature but goes you something to learn about the flash car you just chose.
The gameplay is a bit shallow though. I find it very repetitive to play. Run a race, win said race, select a new race, repeat. Other than just getting a higher score there isn’t much incentive to keep playing. Another thing I find a bit interesting about it is that you never really have to brake. You can go flying into a corner at 250 kph and just time your handbrake slide at the right time and just slide around the corner. In real life I would imagine you’d go sliding right off the road and into the wall.
Visually the game looks really great. The environment and car detail is top notch. I found playing a bit of free-roam and just driving down random roads was enjoyable. Over all the game is fun, but probably only worth renting for a weekend.
